EDUCATION SECTION

I have always hoped this site would be seen as educational since it’s conception. My ambition was that, through stories, poems, graphics, and further study a truer picture of the people of Turtle Island (America,) could emerge. One that wipes away all that false Hollywood and Television imagery that set into people’s minds as stereotypical. The picture they attempted to give were usually inaccurate anyway. Indians were mostly portrayed as savages attacking wagon trains, stagecoaches etc. in a mindless way. The differing tribe didn’t seem to matter either: all Indians dressed the same. Luckily things are slowly changing now and people are starting to be taught the reality of history, not Hollywood's take on it.

Even the British education system is lacking in this area. I cannot speak for the American one. We know who wrote the history books out there. If the history of the people of Turtle Island is to be considered a subject worthy of G.C.S.E. examination (an award in the English education system,) then surely the truth should be revealed at long last. Teachers in England are trying to teach children using books that contain false and misleading information.

With this in mind I decided to put more history onto this site. I know it is getting away from the stories, graphics and poetry a bit but I felt this site should be about more than just those minor things of my own creation. It should be somewhere that people can come to when they need information and the truth.

I thought long and hard about what to put in, it was not an easy decision. I decided to include extracts from books written by people from the Nations, which have already appeared in print.

In these extracts the People sometimes describe religious rites or beliefs. I am aware that there are those who wish to steal this from the People. That there are unscrupulous men and women who will take from various religions and make it out to be some new truism, and charge for doing so. I have only put this information on the site to educate and to show those who visit this site the true richness and beauty of the Lakota way. I have also placed on this site a warning page a 'Declaration of War' from the People, which I hope all will read. Please remember you have come here to learn not to steal.

Below are links to enjoy the rest of this sections, I hope there is something here you find both interesting and of use, all that I ask is that when you have finished you will leave a message in my guestbook.

May the Great Spirit watch over you.

So why not spend a little more time here and begin reading them... learn about the many different structures the natives used for their homes. Learn what the passage into womanhood was like for Native girls. View black and white photographs of how Natives lived... how they spent their days, the difference between a Summer camp and a winter camp... Here are the links to the new sections, enjoy.
